Building Multi-Directional Speed

Multidirectional Speed (MDS) requires a quick change of trajectory in any direction. It is the process of acceleration and re-acceleration in all planes of movement. It requires a high level of skill in managing an individual’s center of gravity in order to decelerate!

First, it’s important to distinguish there’s different types of multi-directional speed categories:

Change of Direction

Agility

Maneuverability

Plyometric

Each one of the above categories require difference sets of exercises.

4 Focal Points to Master

We teach these in order to become better at Changing direction

1.

A wide base of support

2.

Low center of gravity

3.

A Strong Back & Core (Retracted & Depressed shoulder blades)

4.

Weight shift to the inside

In the videos below, our awesome friends at Parisi Speed School SD demonstrates how to put these together. He goes over Beginner foundational drills to more advanced Change of Direction Drills.

(it’s worth repeating, these drills are primarily for Change of Direction. We have other drills we use for Curvi-Linear speed, agility, etc)
